This fresco was commissioned by Urban VIII, Maffeo Barberini, noted for his love of baroque excess, as in his commission of Bernini’s baldachinno for St. Peter’s Basilica. Of note are the continual references to suns and bees, the heraldic symbols of the Barberini family, as well as Time with a scythe swallowing the arm of a putti.
